Sarah Burton’s collection for Alexander McQueen was one of the top collections of this season. Her feminine details and focus on the tiny waist created the most beautiful silhouettes. The movement created by the soft ruffles and peplums were influenced by the movement of jellyfish swimming in the sea as there was a definite oceanic vibe. Sarah Burton’s woman is a goddess…. soft, gentle and beautiful in appearance but don’t mess with her. She has the capability to sting when provoked.
( And as if there weren’t enough blind rumours flying about this week in Paris with designers being plucked from one house to another. The latest is that Ms. Burton is being courted to start her own label. We’ll see…. )

well…. Sarah Burton it is!

Kate Middleton’s beautiful wedding dress was indeed designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Ms. Burton was sprung into the spotlight when she was appointed creative director after the death of Mr. McQueen. She worked alongside Alexander McQueen for 14 years. Ms. Burton received the design commission of a lifetime. The dress is perfection. Kate and Sarah could not have come up with a more stunning choice. The design of the dress embodies both tradition, classicism and modernity. The white and ivory satin gazar gown is hand finished with lace appliqué. The ivory satin bodice is inspired from Victorian corsetry which Alexander McQueen favored and incorporated often in his designs. An almost nine foot train trailed, regally but delicately. English Cluny lace and French Chantilly lace are used throughout the dress and the bodice and sleeves. The veil is of silk tulle and finished with hand embroidered flowers. The new Duchess of Cambridge wears it with a Cartier tiara, made in 1936, loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth. This diamond and pearl tiara once belonged to the Queen Mother. A gift from King George VI before they were wed. This now famous wedding gown was completely overseen by Sarah Burton and her team at Alexander McQueen. Aside from the Chantilly lace, all else was sourced and made in England. Sarah Burton has given us a new reason to celebrate British fashion.
